OK Tammy, I’m finally blogging!!! Hope I’m doing it right. Well were do I start? I am a 22 year old who currently goes to Morehead State University in Kentucky. I have not always been here for my college years though. This is my 5th year as a college student. I graduated High School 19th in my class with a 3.8 GPA. I was a student who didn’t do a bunch of studying in high school but I managed to get good grades. College was a wake up call!!! Harrison County High School did not prepare me well for college life and needing to study to get good grades. My first year of college was not horrible, I had a 3.0 GPAafter my freshman year, but after that it got a little harder for me. I moved off campus with some friends, went through some personal issues and got off the college track. My major was Secondary History Education. It took me 2.5 years at Lexington Community College to get my associates degree in arts and humanities. It took me an extra half year there to get my associates because I didn’t take charge of my classes and let an advisor pick them out for me. That, I found out, was a mistake. My last advisor was the best one I had the entire time at LCC. He was one of my professors and told me that some advisers don’t like the advising process since most have other things to do like grade papers and tests, that they don’t want to fool with helping students pick the classes they need, they just give them a list of classes that go with their major that they have not taken. I had taken many classes that didn’t count towards my associates, otherwise I would have had my associates in the two year instead of the extra semester.
After graduating from LCC I transferred to Morehead State for the spring semester. I lived in the dorm with a friend from high school and two other roommates she had lived with the semester before. I took the place of the fourth roommate who moved out over Christmas break. Here I began to take classes that I need, my advisor was great. I didn’t have much of a social life because I dated a guy from Cynthiana (my home town) and went home every weekend. So I didn’t have a chance to meet many new people or make many friends. The second year of college was good. I lived with two girls who I met in the dorm my first semester that lived down the hall. We got along great and I enjoyed living with them. I did make some friends my second year at Morehead, but still not many. The ones I made were after my boyfriend and I broke up in March. After that I had more time to go to social events and parties and meet new people. School was good, but i was having doubts about my major. So after the end of my fourth year of college, I changed majors to Communications, Advertising and Public Relations.

I am currently living off campus with two roommates, one is my best friend, Kara, who is from Ohio. We met through our ex boyfriends since she dated someone from Cynthiana and that is how we became close. The other roommate is Donnie, we all call him Tiny because he is about 5′ 4. He is from Pike County which is in the mountains and I met him through Kara. We all get along great. Kara has the same major as me and when we graduate and have jobs for a while, we plan on opening our own event planning buisness. Tiny just changed his major from communications to nursing. He said he wants to make the money and meet up with femal nurses in the supply closet!!!! I think he may have watched to many episodes of Grey’s Anatomy!!! lol.
My classes this semester are going good, I feel like my life is finally starting to get back on track. I have met so many more people since living with Kara and Tiny. I am becoming more social and that is exciting for me because when I meet new people I tend to be shy. My mom even said that she’s happy I’m having more fun with my life and that I am excited about my new major. I have not left history all together though, that is now my minor. Maybe I will intern in New York at the Museum of Natural History!?!? I don’t know but there is a big world out there and I believe I am starting to finally get ready for it!!!!!
You are doing it right! Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to following your college adventures!
