Study finds that Public High School College Counselor’s Caseloads are going UP

An article by Jacques Steinberg, NYT, reports that the caseloads of public high school counselors continues to rise. The average caseload was approximately 400 students to a counselor, and the report from NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling) states that the average increase is 53 students.
Public guidance counselors are already overloaded. Many public high schools expect their guidance counselors to do college counseling in addition to their guidance counseling duties. While these numbers continue to rise, students are applying to more colleges and need more advice than ever.
