I have always loved Thanksgiving. I’m not sure if it’s the tradition of getting together with family and friends, the cold, crisp weather or celebrating my birthday which falls so close to Thanksgiving. This year though, I’m so excited Jordan will be coming home. Although I have missed her, the transition has been fairly easy. When you consider we can skype, facebook, instant message, text and even, g-d forbid, call on the phone…we have kept in touch.
Of course, I have tried to let her contact us rather than my bothering her. Jordan and I have had a few very long calls (or skype sessions, which are the best), especially after Tracy passed away. She said she was fine, I know I wasn’t. I think she and all the kids had a dose of mortality thrown in their faces. It was hard for Jordan to be so far from home, but facebook was a g-dsend, she was on with her friends almost as soon as she heard the news. I know she is so looking forward to seeing all of her friends when she is home. We are lucky we will have her for a week, so she will have time to spend with her friends as well as her family. I know when Wednesday comes and all of her friends are home, we will see very little of her. I am just so happy she is loving school. Can’t wait for the 22nd, she will be getting extra hugs whether she wants them or not!
I am feeling the same way about my college sophomore, Eric, coming home in another week from Atlanta. It may not have the same amount of suspense as freshman Thanksgiving, but I still can’t wait to see him!
I wrote a blog post on the freshman Thanksgiving experience at www. positionu4college.wordpress.com. You might enjoy it.
