This is my first blog… so I have a lot to say!
My first semester of my sophomore year at Lake Forest College (LFC) is coming to an end. This is my second year to be living in one of the campus dorms, Cleveland-Young International Center (CYIC). Most people mistake it for being a dorm just for international students; it’s also open to students who are interested in living in a close and diverse community, or studying International Relations. I have the same roommate from last year, who I love so, so much! Her name is Laura and she is one of my best friends. She is majoring in International Relations (IR) and Sociology and Anthropology (SOAN). We are extremely lucky that we get along so well, and have the same group of friends that we like to hang out with. I broke up my blog into categories so readers who don’t want to read the whole thing can select which sections they would like to read.
Friends:
I have a number of friends here at LFC who I am extremely close with and who I really consider some of the greatest friends in the world! My other best friend, besides my roommate, is Melanie. I started hanging out with her second semester of my freshman year. Melanie, Laura and I are pretty much almost always together, whether we’re hanging out or studying. I love these girls with all my heart! Another one of my best friends, who is also my neighbor in CYIC, is Jaime. He is truly the sweetest, most loving person I have ever met! He is a senior this year and last year I convinced him to live on campus for his senior year, since he has always been a commuter. I have met many new people this year, I really like a lot of the freshman, they’re pretty radical! I am so thankful for being able to be a resident of CYIC, because that is where I really get to connect and bond with other students. I could go on and on about my friends, but I don’t want to bore everyone :]
Courses:
I’m currently taking: Intro to Sociology & Anthropology, Geography & Demography, World Music Survey, and a Calculus class. My favorite class that I have found a new love for is, SOAN! I actually also really enjoyed my World Music Survey class. They both focus on studying other cultures which I find extremely interesting! My math class has been pretty awesome, only because of the professor I have. She is a very patient, understanding and just awesome all around math professor. I find it rare to find a very good professor who can teach math.
I’m super excited for next semester because I will be taking:
1. Another SOAN course called, Deviance. Deviance is defined by society as its outcasts and outsiders. We will study how people so defined respond to this categorization, along with the nature of normal and abnormal, legal and illegal.
2. Another math course called, Finite Mathematics. I will be taking it with the same professor, which I’m really happy that I get to work with her again!
3. I will be taking the only psychology course at LFC that doesn’t require one to take the intro class that includes labs. It has been offered before and I always have wanted to take it, but it was only offered as a night course, which I avoid, but it is now offered as a morning course! Anyway, it’s called, Cross-Cultural Psychology.
4. Musicianship, which is the development of practical skills that are important for a musician to know, such as, sight singing, ear training, and melodic & rhythmic dictation.
Stay tuned for Part II
Thats my girl!
