You always hear about things that you should do in college. The “Do” list is massive, but what about the Don’ts? There are plenty out there, and as a college student, you might want to take a quick second to figure out what you shouldn’t be doing with your time. Here is a list to get you started.

Don’t Go Bankrupt

We all know that college is fettered with debt, but you should still try to remain fairly savvy with your money while you’re there. Student loans and college grants are not out there for you to use on the supercharger for your Mustang. They are meant for school expenses. Do your best to save money when you can, and avoid bills as much as you can. Learning to live on a budget will help you out after graduation anyways.

Don’t Develop Addictions

As tempting as the parties may be in college, you can’t be too carried away. The occasional drink or experiment won’t hurt, but avoid addictions as much as possible. You want to have all of your brain cells in order when you get out of college, so you might as well keep as much of them as you can. Try to stay out of drugs or stay away from the people that have them. If you have a fun night, don’t think that it will always be fun. Keep your habits down to the not so detrimental ones.

Don’t Get in a Rut

The routine of college can cause you to easily fall in a boring routine. This is a bad idea because you will automatically start to be bored with what you’re doing. The less you like your major in school, the more you will hate your actual career. Start off on a good foot by changing things up a bit. Never be shy of experimentation if it will re-spark your interest in your job.

Don’t Forget to Plan Ahead

There is nothing worse than getting into college and not knowing what you’re going to do afterwards. You need to set up a plan early on so that you have your future set in advance. Take up internships as soon as you can and go through a work study program at school to seek out job opportunities. Get your resume in order so that you are ready for the job hunt after graduation. Always think three steps ahead and you should set yourself up for a rewarding life.

Don’t Forget to Have Fun

Once you get out into the work force, your “fun time” will be drastically reduced. Take a chance to enjoy your free time while you can. Of course, you can’t let the fun take away from your academics entirely, but a little breather may do you some good. While you’re young and you have your head on relatively straight, go out and enjoy life.
