During this Winter break I have had the pleasure of catching up with “former” students (they are never former to me, always MY students!). I am always so happy to discover they are doing well, taking on challenges, and exploring the world. Sometimes you discover that their road is harder than they expected it to be, but I always hope they will rise to the occasion. I love hearing about their learning experiences and college adventures.
Two of my students are exploring a semester at sea as their “study abroad” experience with stops in places like Cape Town, Madagascar, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam and Hong Kong. The experience includes cultural studies as well as marine science. What a great way to study, seeing the world you are studying first hand. Melissa and Meredith are at different colleges but plan to study abroad together. You can catch up with Melissa on her blog, College Adventures of an Ole Miss Rebel.
My two UT boys! One is at UT in Austin, the other at the University of Tampa. Both are doing very well and loving college life. One is still exploring and deciding upon a major, the other is a communications major and one of my bloggers, Nick’s College Adventures in Florida. Mr. UT Austin says he will start blogging for me, and I hope he does. His writing is engaging and promising; a joy to read. We shall see!
I plan to meet up with more of my students, and some I have met with but don’t have photos. It is always exciting to find out what they are doing and where they are headed! It reminds me of why I work with high school and college students, why I love what I do. There is just nothing I find more rewarding than working with students to find the right college fit!
