Second Semester

semester at sea
Christmas Break was fantastic! I got to see my little brother, who is really starting to grow up. I went to Crested Butte, Colorado to go skiing with my family. We met up with another family, The Jordan’s, who we have been skiing with every year for the past 12 years or so. It was a lot of fun. My brother, Zachary, went down his first black slope (one of the hardest) this year. He did so well! I was very proud of him.

But then Christmas can and went the New Years past, and I went back to school. Actually, I was very excited to go back to school. I missed all my friends and I have really gotten used to living on my own and being in Mississippi. It has grown on me so much! I wouldn’t want to be any where else. So I’ve been back for a couple of weeks and just finished my first week of school this semester! I am starting classes that actually count toward my major. Im taking a class called EDRD. It is an education reading class. I begin to learn to teach children how to read and write. It’s very fascinating. I feel like I am actually learning something useful, not the mundane core classes you just have to get through. In EDRD, one of the assignments is to visit an elementary school and observe a morning of class. I am very excited. I am also taking an elementary math class. We learn the how to do elementary level math. One of the interesting things about my elementary classes is that we have name tents. The pieces of paper you fold like a “hot dog” and write you name on. They teach us like they would teach elementary kids so we learn the techniques to use by experience. Now that I am in these classes and learning techniques and tools, I know that I am in the right major.

Another event that is going right in my life is the study abroad program I just applied to and got accepted! It’s the Semester At Sea Program I was talking about in some of my earlier blogs. I applied, have been accepted, and put a deposit down! I leave January 27, 2011! I will spend 3.5 months on a boat visiting 11 different countries, like Nassau, Bahamas; Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, India, Singapore, and a few other places. I am absolutely ecstatic and cannot wait! So I will be writing about that as I find out more information! Nothing much else has been happening. Its only the first week of school! I am looking forward to a fun semester though!!!
