Are you a visual person? Creative? Always sketching or drawing or coming up with new fonts or characters? Do you enjoy working on the computer? Graphic Design may be something for you to look at. What is Graphic Design? It is all around you: menus, cd covers, book covers, websites, birthday cards, posters, billboards……they are all Graphic Design.
Some colleges offer Graphic Design within a broader liberal arts program, but there are many colleges that focus on the arts. Graphic Designers work for advertising agencies, corporations, greeting card companies, and sometimes for themselves. However, it is important to note that in this field the customer comes first. If the client doesn’t like it, it doesn’t get used. Graphic Design is mostly a field where you create visuals and lettering to make statements and visual identifications.
Check to see if the school you are looking at is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Remember also that there are many, many design degrees…make sure you do your homework so you know which one you want to major in.
