Well the holidays were great. I got a job at James Avery where I ended up spending most of the money I earned! I spent a lot of time with friends and family and I went on a weekend trip to Denver where I saw my roommate, my friend Ian who is at school in Wisconsin and lives in Durango, CO, and I snowmobiled (it’s the BEST thing ever!) and skiied.
But I was definitely ready to come back to school. I felt better as soon as I landed in the good ole ATX. Don’t get me wrong, I love being home and I love my family and miss them! And I wish I could see my friends again sooner, but it’s nice to be back and making both social and academic progress. I’m taking more challenging classes, but I’m still really interested in everything I’m taking! I think that’s part of the secret to academic success. You may have to take a science class or a social science class, but there are options–take one that you actually might not mind learning about, it’ll promote your motivation to study and do your work. For example, I’m taking Psychology. I needed a social science credit but I chose a teacher who is Jewish and even keeps kosher! She teaches us facts all about science, but she doesn’t step on my religious toes. And to top that, she’s funny! It makes me want to go to class and feel comfortable enough to approach her and ask questions when I don’t understand.
Socially, I’ve been to LOTS of functions. Fraternities have thrown raves/blacklight parties, fiestas, a HUGE mekong delt party that reached full capacity and had to turn even girls away until it got shut down by the cops at 1 because a girl had a heart attack and 2 others got alcohol poisoning. I was initially turned away but my friend who’s in the fraternity snuck us in the back. At 1 o’clock they turned the lights on, said that the cops helped the girls and were going to wait outside for 15 minutes and then come inside and check IDs, so I left and went back to Towers Dormitory to hang with some friends and watch the greatest show ever–It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia (they have every episode in their room). I’ve spent a lot of time in Towers, actually. I’ve become pretty good friends with some boys there and it’s nice having guy friends again. I live with all girls, I’m a Theatre major, and I’m in a sorority. I’ve always been better friends with boys and I miss them a lot. Anyway, that party was worth it, even though it was shut down. They had an amazing DJ AND live band.
Well, I’m currently sick and it’s killin me being cooped up in my room. First off, I’ve never been sick without my mom. Second, I NEED to be better by tomorrow night, there are some super parties with super cute boys calling my name
Third, I have to perform a scene for class this week.
