What a FANTASTIC day, especially for a Monday. I got up, dog-tired, went to class and was done by 11. The teacher in my first class woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, but what can you do. By the time class was done, the sun was shining, it was a beautiful 72 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky. I spent the entire day outside!! It was amazing. This is the first warm beautiful day in Oxford, Mississippi in what seems to be forever!
I used the opportunity to try a new hobby called geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) I’m not sure how many of you have heard of this, but it’s a really cool game. Basically, it is a worldwide “hide and seek” game. People get these containers called “caches” and hide them in random places around the world. The caches can be any where in size from a film canister to a plastic shoebox. Once the cache is hidden the GPS coordinates are put on the official website. I look up these coordinates put them in my GPS and go and find it! Depending on how big the cache is you either log that you have been there or there are happies in the box that you can trade out for, like a ring for a bracelet. I found my first cache today! It was a film canister between two trees in a graveyard that I didn’t even know existed. It was really neat. By searching for the caches, I actually am learning things about the city I live in that I didn’t know about. The one I did today was fairly easy. There are harder ones that require hiking and swimming and all sorts of other out door activities. Since I am a SCUBA diver my goal is to find one that I have to dive for! I really enjoy geocaching because it is an adventure every time and you can get a group of friends together and make a day out of it. It’s a great activity and its better then sitting on your butt and watching TV.
After satisfyingly finding my first cache, I went home to study after an invigorating run. I’ve been running a mile every day. It only takes about 15 minutes (slow, I know!) but it’s just what I need to get those endorphins flowing! I have come up with a new philosophy. Everything in life can be solved by drinking water and a good run. Well, at least nothing seems as bad after a run and water just seems to always make me feel better. Not that anything is bad. Actually, right now, everything is great. In some of my earlier blogs I talked about finding a niche and re-evaluating friends. I found with time everything worked itself out. I am really comfortable in school now, my grades are still great, I’ve got a few really great loyal friends, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. So my advice to all you high school senior college lookers: know that its going to be tough, its going to be scary, but its all apart of growing up and becoming independent, and I PROMISE, if you keep you head on right (and with risk of sounding corny again) do what you know is right and what makes you happy, the little things work itself out and the big things fall into place.
