High school sophomores, it is time to get your thinking cap on! It is the perfect time to start planning your college search, application, and selection process. The earlier you start, the more likely it will be that you will find the right college fit. So, what should you be doing?
First, start thinking about the college environment you might be interested in. Do a little research online, perhaps a few “virtual” visits. Begin talking to your parents about college, majors, and their thoughts about your future.
Second, you have taken the PSAT, and perhaps the PLAN. How did you do on the standardized test? You might want to make a plan for doing a bit of preparation for the Junior year PSAT. I advise students to take both the SAT and the ACT during their junior year.
Third, consider your summer. It is time to make a plan. Camp? Work? Volunteer service? Travel? Do something! You want to be engaged in some type of activity during your summers, especially as you near college. You may want to attend summer school, or a pre-collegiate summer program on campus somewhere, just to give you a taste of the college life.
You don’t want to spend your senior year of high school stressed about college applications and scholarship searches. NOW is the time to start!
