The NEW Lynn University!

Beautiful Lynn U in Boca Raton

Lynn University has made some changes to their curriculum and programs….all for the better. I had a great meeting last week with Jan Macko, the Texas admission counselor who is a graduate of Lynn. Actually, Jan is from the Czech Republic. He came to Lynn as a international student and planned to spend a year. He never left! Lynn U has many, many international students.

Lynn has added a “J” term to their academic calendar. The “J” term stands for January term. Many liberal arts schools have them. Students have a fall and spring semester, but they also have a one course (or trip) January term which lasts 3 weeks. A student can take a class on campus, do community service, a special project, or a study abroad program. This is a great opportunity for students to do more studying abroad.

Lynn has also put into effect The Dialogues of Learning, a Core Curriculum for the 21st Century. Liberal arts meets professional studies. Dialogue, debate, discussion, questioning, multiple perspectives, discernment and reflection are the goals of the core. Mainstay courses are Dialogues of Self and Society, of Belief and Reason, and of Justice and Civic Life. These courses are taught in a seminar format, and is based on a learning centered community.

The university is also known for its learning disabilities program, the Institute for Achievement and Learning (fee based).  Once accepted into the program it includes diagnositc testing, recommendations,  individual and group tutoring, academic support services, and specialized classes for those who need them. These specialized classes might consist of a required math course that is taught to students with math disabilities ONLY. Specialized attention and specialized teaching. A Lynn speciality!

Lynn suffered a terrible tragedy this year: 2 faculty and 4 students were lost in Haiti during the earthquake. They were there on a humantarian effort when the earthquake hit. The community has come together and is stronger than ever in the wake of this tragic event.

Lynn is a must see, not only because of terrific programs, but hey, it’s in Boca Raton!  BEACH!
