Work Week/Polish Week

WEEEEEELLLLLLL I’m BAAAAACCCKKKK!!!

I’m happily moved into my brand spankin new room at the Alpha Phi house in the grand ole city of Austin, TX and quite frankly, I couldn’t be more pleased! We had to come back to school 2 weeks early for work week/polish week (when we finalize and practice everything for rush and get all settled in before our PNM’s come down to rush! (potential new members)
I am enjoying myself with my friends all living around me even as we work hard everyday from 9-5 (literally) learning people’s names, learning songs, practicing bouncing and clapping, and rehearsing the skits and picking up tips on how to make conversation with people you are just meeting without scaring them away or becoming too personal. It’s been interesting to say the least. I’ve enjoyed getting to know my new transfer Alpha Phi’s who joined us this week from various schools (we do accept transfer alpha phi’s and let them affiliate here). I’ve enjoyed seeing some of my Austin friends again and of course, catching up with my roommate from last year, Laura. I certainly missed Laura this summer while she was in Colorado, Australia and Missouri. She made it down to Texas once to see her boyfriend in Austin, but couldn’t manage to Dallas and I was working all summer at a country club so I couldn’t leave either.

My summer was fantastic! I went on a dive trip with Tam’s family in Cozumel, went a week in the amazing Chi-city where I saw my beautiful sorority sister who lives there, earned money working over 30 hours a week, and spent a lot of time with friends and family. My only complaint: it was entirely too long. I was ready to return to Austin about halfway through my summer break, there’s only so much Dallas I can take. And I’ve found I get along with my family so much better when I’m in a different city than them. I love them, don’t get me wrong, it’s just an observation. I know I’ll miss them, but it’ll be awhile before that kicks in and in the meantime, I’m loving being back home in Austin. I walked around campus yesterday and just couldn’t stop smiling to myself while my soul started feeling complete again. I can only imagine it’ll be even better when the rest of my friends finish moving into their respective residences.

I’m even excited for my classes! I found that I don’t have classes on Mondays or Wednesays which is pretty awesome! I’m taking Bio, British Literature, 2 acting classes and Intro to Mythology. They seem pretty great, but a lot of work. I’m also submitting a request to take Spanish online through community college during this semester as well (with 2 of my classes not really being classes, I think I can handle it.) Well, here’s to a-whole-nother year of continuing higher education, Longhorn football, new littles and new and better friendships! (If you’re listening God, I’d be up for a new man too haha! :P )
