Hey Tam! Did you know that Reed College (my place) opted out of U.S. News & World Report because they thought it was a ridiculous way to do things? There’s an article about it on the Reed website, I think. Anyways, when we refused to participate, our ratings went down. A lot. As in, we were originally in the top ten, I believe. Anyways, the reasoning behind not participating was that ratings are based on a ton of statistics that colleges manipulate, often in misleading ways, in order to make themselves look good while neglecting things that really matter. And that’s what people are basing their college decisions on. Which is, I’d say, kind of silly. So I’m with Reed on College Rankings as a whole- pfft, I say.

  2. hey Steph! I completely and totally agree with you. Sarah Lawrence experienced the same thing when they “opted out” of the ranking game. And game it is. I’ve done several blogs on the folly of the ranking game. Thanks for commenting! I love Reed!
