Financial Aid packages are not set in stone! You can “negotiate”, ie, ask for more. In these uncertain economic times, our incomes are not necessarily steady, so if your income for 2009 was less than 2008, request that the financial aid office take your revised income into consideration.

Inside Higher Education reports that students are abandoning business as a college major, according to the UCLA annual Freshman Survey. Students majoring in business down to 14.4%, its lowest level since 1974.

Adjusting to our daughter being so far away at school seemed to be going much better than I had expected. I even began to feel rather guilty when people asked how I was doing and I could reply…”good!” I thought it was probably because we would be seeing Jordan for Parent’s weekend, which was only four weeks after we moved her in.

I am off to Boston tomorrow to take my 22 year old college grad to art school in Boston! Well, actually Waltham. Close enough! While I am there I will also be joined by one of my students. We will tour Boston University, Mt Holyoke College, and Wellesley College.

I’ve been home 3 days since taking our daughter and first born to college. She is going to school in the northeast, so school didn’t start until after Labor Day. She was very ready to go because all of her friends were already gone. I knew having her so far from home would be the hardest thing for me to deal with. Moving her and ALL OF HER STUFF went somewhat smooth. After making friends with a woman at the mail room, we shipped our daughters many boxes and this wonderful lady made sure they were waiting for us at the dorm. The school had upper classman at the curb to help unload cars and carry everything up to the dorm rooms.

We dropped our son, Wes, off at college a week ago, and of course, except for one very short phone call, we have not heard from him. sigh. He has not blogged either (*he is the High School Slacker). I did see a video of him on Facebook, on a slack line (haha) throwing a frisbee, so I assume he is still there. I hear from my “other sons from other mothers” frequently…two of them have the H1N1 virus. Hopefully Wes will surface and remember he has a family at some point….and a commitment to blogging.
