My summer of love, life and learning in Italy

I am going to try to write a few blogs while I’m in Italy, but as I have to use other people’s computers, it will probably be limited, as much as I’d love to write about every single one of the experiences that I’ve had so far verbatim.

You know what really irks me?

Ignorance and insensitivity. I know that we’re off in our own little bubbles at college, but seriously people, make an effort to keep in touch with the outside world!

Theater, theater everywhere

This past week the theater department cancelled all of their classes and hosted the University Co-op presents the Cohen New Works Festival 2011! The whole week, starting at 11am and ending at nearly midnight, there were shows and installations and keynote speakers.

Becoming an Adult

There are things in life that your parents simply cannot prepare you for and I believe it is when you start to encounter these things that you realize you’ve woken up to discover you’ve left the world of adolescents. For instance, I started having to do my taxes last year, but really I faxed everything to mom and mom did it for me. This year, now that I’m the big 2-0, it’s all me. Full Story »

Roomies

I’m getting to know my roommates a lot better and I really couldn’t be happier with them. Though they have some weird habits like one going to bed by 10:30 every night and wanting to turn the light off right then and the other not going to bed until at least 2, overall, we get along so great and I feel like we mesh really well with our habits.

While I should be studying…

I’m going to write a blog instead.

There comes a time in almost every college student’s life when they realize that they’re only making good grades these days for themselves, that most people after college only care that you graduated from this place with that degree. That hit me this semester. Hard. I find myself lacking motivation to really study hard for most tests and things. My english teacher said it pretty perfectly this year, “most people do most things most of the time on autopilot.”

Can you be smart AND creative?

If there is one thing I really just can’t stand about other people sometimes, it is that they think you can only be one or the other, smart or creative. So because I’m in creative majors, I’m not expected to do as well as others in core subjects. When I got better grades than some of [...]

Critic’s Review

here are several things I hate about college and people. Not about my college mind you, about college in general. First, you know when you get your test back and you look at the question you got wrong and you knew in your heart what the right answer was but you wrote it down wrong? Example: I wrote Eukaryotic stem cells on my bio test instead of Embryonic. In the stress of the exam, I thought to myself embryonic and then wrote eukaryotic, but I legitimately thought I’d written the right answer and if anyone had asked, I’d have said outloud the right answer..my hand just didn’t connect with my brain. And there’s nothing you can do about it.

1 part sisterhood, 2 parts party, 1 part philanthropy= super fun weekend

I want to start by saying that my little sis in the sorority is perfect for me. Things have a funny way of turning out like that.. last year I didn’t know my big sis at all and now I can’t imagine having anyone else. We’ve gotten to know each other way better since we both live in the house and I think that our new “family” is just perfect for one another. My little, Serena, is going through all the rituals toward Initiation tonight that I cannot name on here because well.. I swore an oath not to reveal it and I think I’m more excited for her to go through it than I was for myself!
