Today I toured a campus in the best way possible, led by my own student, Kirby. There is no substitute for seeing a college or university through a student’s eyes. I can tell you I was extremely impressed, and not just by the charming campus in Historical Charleston!

Tracy Fisher was a former student of mine, and a blogger for College Adventures. The day before her 19th birthday Tracy suddenly passed away while at college. Tracy has gone from us, but her happy and joyous spirit remains. Tracy’s parents, Mark and Laurel, are heading an effort to name a portion of the Jewish Community Center’s new Natural Outdoor Playground after Tracy, and I encourage you to support them in rememberance of Tracy. Long time, no see
Alright. I haven’t written a blog in a while. By a while, I mean a pretty long time. A really long time. Whoops.
Have no fear, dearest reader. You see, it has been the summer for many weeks and I have done practically nothing. I’ve run stupid errands (grocery shopping, taking the dog to the vet, etc.), seen old friends, attended a funeral, gone to the courthouse for a ticket and jury duty, traffic school, and even made a lady friend. All before I head off to Australia this upcoming Thursday.

I had a wonderful tour by LFC tour guide Laura, and my student (and close family friend) Matille. The tour included meeting many students…many happy students! It was wonderful to meet so many engaged, bright, and involved students. Finals are upon them, and they are studying hard, but they still took the time to greet me and chat.

So, I think I have found a solution to my sorority problem. I talked to the right people about my situation. I haven’t made a decision yet but I am closer. When I went to standards to talk to the president, financial advisor, and and standards committee, we were able to discuss more options.

This has been the toughest admission year on record. Students are so nervous about admissions that they are now averaging 12 applications! 12!

So, basically after spring break everything started to REALLY kick in. The month of April is going to be filled with so much. I have two final projects (both will probably end up being a power point presentation–more about them later), I have to keep practicing my piece for my jury during final exam week, Mu phi initiation is coming up towards the end of April, the Symphony/Choral Union concert. SO MUCH.
