    around them.

Congratulations to 2008 Seniors!

In a particularly difficult application year I am happy to congratulate my
Seniors on their acceptances, scholarship offers, and decisions!  Some
students are off to college right away, and a few are choosing to do a
Gap Year.  CONGRATULATIONS, SENIORS!

Oh, the places you'll go!  Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.

Elie Weisel,
Nobel Peace
Laureate and
author of 40
books, including
NIGHT, speaks
at Eckerd
College on
February 21,
2008.
On February 21, 2008, I had the great honor of hearing Elie Weisel, Nobel Peace Laureate, acclaimed author, Holocaust survivor, and Eckerd
adjunct faculty member, give the keynote speech at Eckerd College's 50 year Convocation.  My daughter, Alexandra, who is a student at
Eckerd, attended with me, and so did two of my students, Alec C 2009 and Nick B 2008.  In addition to giving the keynote speech, Professor
Weisel was present for the endowment of the
Elie Weisel Endowed Professorship in Humane Letters.  This honor went to Professor
Carolyn Johnston who has taught a yearly seminar with Professor Weisel during Eckerd's Winter Term.
The students enjoyed tours of Eckerd College and the University of Tampa as well as the Convocation events.  In addition to this Florida tour,
two students (Nick B 2008 and Cooper G 2009) accompanied me to Boston on February 13th to visit Boston University and Emerson College.
Both trips were great fun!  And quite educational, of course.
